Application Requirements

To be considered for admission, you must have been a Christian for at least one year and a member of an evangelical Protestant church. In addition, the following items are required as part of the application process:

  1. Application for Admission
    Please use our new online application and pay the nonrefundable $35 application fee. You may continue working on an online application already in progress.
     
  2. Doctrinal Qualification for Students
    To be admitted and to graduate, students must personally adhere to and support the Doctrinal Qualifications for Students.
     
  3. Autobiographical Essays
    It is our aim to know you as much as possible, and we provide an opportunity for self-expression in responding to our essay questions. Since all students at Moody are expected to maintain the highest standards of integrity we require that your autobiographical essays be your own work. Essays should be clear, concise and complete.
     
  4. References
    You will be prompted to supply contact information for three referents: name, phone number and e-mail address. Moody will email the reference form to each referent. If you are unable to provide an academic reference and/or you have been out of school for five years, or more, you can provide an employer reference. You should confirm with each individual that you have their permission to supply Moody with this information.

    Download the reference forms below and complete the top part of each form. Please make sure to write your name on the forms before distributing them. Referents should return their letters to you sealed and signed in the envelopes that you provide. You will then submit the references or they may send it in separately if they prefer. Please do not break seals of envelopes.

    Pastor Reference Form: If your church is without a pastor, or your pastor is a relative, this form may be given to a former pastor, a minister friend or a church official. It must be someone who has known you for at least one year and has had the opportunity to observe your spiritual life. The individual cannot be a relative.

    Peer Reference Form: This form should be filled out by a mature Christian adult who has known you at least one year and who is not a relative of yours.

    Academic Reference Form: This form should be filled out by a current or former undergraduate or graduate teacher.

    Employer Reference Form: This form should be filled out by your current or former employer or supervisor.
  5. Transcripts
    Request official transcripts from each post-secondary school that you have attended and have the transcripts sent directly to the Admissions Office of Moody Bible Institute. All transcripts are required and must be postmarked by the application deadline. International students must have all documents and records evaluated by World Education Services (www.wes.org or 212-966-6311) or Education Credential Evaluators (www.ece.org or 414-289-3400) The evaluation must include a grade point average.
  6. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
    This test must be taken by all international applicants from countries where English is not the official language. A minimum score of 575 (paper-based), or 233 (computer-based) or 85 (Internet-based) is required for admission.

    Because the examination is given only a few times each year, it is important to write at the earliest possible date. Information about taking the examination is provided by the testing service. The results are to be sent directly to Moody Bible Institute. Moody Bible Institute offers no English training programs, and international students are expected to possess sufficient proficiency to engage in full-time study in the English language. An international student application will not be considered until the results of this exam are received.

The application deadlines for international applicants are Oct. 1 for spring semester and and May 1 for fall semester.
