Meet the Conductor
David Gauger II
David Gauger II, conductor, is the coordinator of instrumental instruction at Moody Bible Institute. He holds a Master of Music degree from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Music degree from Wheaton College. He joined the Moody faculty in 1994. In addition to conducting the band, he teaches music technology, instrumental conducting, applied trumpet and contemporary worship courses and coaches small instrumental ensembles.
In late 1999, Gauger began playing extra and substitute trumpet regularly with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO), participating in concerts, recordings and tours to Carnegie Hall, New York and Europe. He was a part of the CSO's tour to Asia in January and February 2009. Gauger has been principal trumpet of the Hong Kong Philharmonic and Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestras and since 1997 has been assistant principal trumpet of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra of Elgin, Ill. As a soloist, he has performed internationally in England, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Romania and Scotland.
