From the Word

Kris White is not the same kid who, years ago, viewed missions work with an air of nonchalance.  He now teaches the Bible to junior high students in conjunction with Youth for Christ, and reaches out to the less fortunate through building relationships with the homeless.

Kris was not always this passionate about serving God.  As a high school freshman, he did not take the Lord’s work seriously.  During his freshman year, Kris was asked to go on a missions trip to inner-city Philadelphia—a proposition with which he became enamored.  Kris, however, was not excited about preaching the gospel; he just wanted to have some fun.  “I wanted to go for the wrong reasons,” says Kris.  “I think the church recognized that my motives weren’t right, and they declined my eligibility to participate.”

Instead, the church offered Kris a chance to work at a youth summer camp in Kansas for two weeks.  It turns out this venture to America’s heartland was exactly what Kris needed.  “I was an introverted kid who was forced out of his shell, and I realized for the first time that God could use me,” says Kris.

Since then, Kris has returned to Kansas twice, and has participated in missions trips to Philadelphia, South Carolina, and Ukraine.  He has also twice journeyed to the Republic of Vanuatu, an island off the coast of Australia.

In Vanuatu, the Lord gave Kris a vision for his life.  “I spent six months there, and I felt the Lord was calling me to further my education,” says Kris.  “I also met a young Australian man by the name of Andrew who had a dream for aviation and a passion for ministry.  Together, we saw a need for airplanes in Vanuatu for ministry purposes.  We decided to pursue bringing them there.

To Life

When Kris returned to the United States, he applied to MBI – Spokane because of its highly-regarded aviation program.  “Since being out here, I have been richly blessed with Bible teaching that will greatly improve my effectiveness in future ministry,” Kris says.  “I have been blessed by the fellowship of attending school with other Christians who share a common goal in their life.”

After he completes his studies, Kris hopes to transport missionaries around the globe, specifically to his beloved Vanuatu.  “The MBI – Spokane education is preparing me to teach others the Bible,” says Kris.  “It will also teach me how to fly.”
