Reflections & Perspectives

The theme for this issue is Leadership. Everyone knows what leadership looks like. There is a myriad of leadership styles and methods. You may not be able to define leadership but you know good leadership, when you see it or experience it. Servant leadership is a commonly used term, but how does it play itself out in real life? What is the balance between serving and leading?

Jesus speaks on the subject of servant leadership in the Gospel of Mark, where he says,“whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all” (Mark 10:43-44, NIV).

Additionally, Peter speaks about servant leadership in one of his epistles: "To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder, a witness of Christ’s sufferings and one who also will share in the glory to be revealed: Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, serving as overseers—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory, that will never fade away” (1 Peter 5:1-4, NIV).

Reflections & Perspectives is meant to encourage dialogue and communication among you, our alumni. You write this section.
