Independent Study
Independent Study was the first mode of distance education Moody Bible Institute provided, beginning in 1901. Independent Study courses allow students to take undergraduate courses on their own time and at their own pace through a print correspondence format. Courses are available for registration at any time and do not operate on the traditional semester format. Students have six months to work through the course material and successfully complete a course, and may choose to enroll in a single course or participate in several courses at one time.
Moody Distance Learning offers Independent Study undergraduate courses in Bible, theology, ministry and general education for college credit.
You can take Independent Study courses to earn college credit and accelerate you towards a Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies degree, an Associate of Biblical Studies degree or a Certificate of Biblical Studies. Independent Study courses are also available to non-degree seeking students, visiting students from other universities and homeschool or high school juniors and seniors.
If you enjoy the Independent Study format, consider an online self-paced course, which combines the flexibility of an Independent Study with the added convenience of an online course.

(Please note: As of July 1, 2010, Moody Distance Learning’s Independent Study courses will no longer include course textbooks with the purchase of a course. We regret having to make this change but trust that you understand that this decision was not made easily. - If you have not previously taken courses with Moody Bible Institute, please apply to a program.
- If you have previously taken courses with Moody Bible Institute, but have not applied to a program, please apply now. Once processed, you will be free to register for courses online.
- If you are currently enrolled as a student with Moody Bible Institute, and would like to register for a course, please register now. To register for Independent Study courses, search for undergraduate courses with the "Independent Studies" mode of instruction in the current semester. There is no pre-registration for Independent Study courses; the day you register is the day your course begins. Make payment in full, and course materials will be mailed directly to you within 3-5 business days from receipt of payment. Please check your moody.edu e-mail account to make sure we have received your registration information.
