What classes are being offered at the Durfee Center?
Most courses are three hours and cost $475 per credit hour ($1,425 total for a three-credit class).
Fall First 8-Week Session
Human Development, Tuesdays from 2:00 – 4:50 p.m.
3-credit course. Learn how to promote wellness and human flourishing across the life span with Dr. Sabrina Black, a licensed counselor and in-demand speaker on marriage and family issues.
Apologetics and World Religions, Wednesdays from 6:00 – 8:50 p.m.
3-credit course. Learn how to defend your faith in an urban context by taking Apologetics and World Religions with Professor Chris Brooks, Moody radio host and pastor of Woodside Bible Church.
Communication of Biblical Truth, Tuesdays from 6:00 – 8:50 p.m.
Learn to communicate God’s Word with Dr. Eric Moore, professor of applied theology and director of community development at Moody Theological Seminary. As pastor of Tree of Life Bible Fellowship, Dr. Moore will help you unleash your preaching and communication skills.
Hermeneutics, Mondays from 6:00 – 8:50 p.m.
3-credit course. Want to understand your Bible better? Taught by local pastor, Michael Jones, Hermeneutics (a fancy word for understanding your Bible) will deepen your skills in reading, interpreting and unlocking Scripture.
Fall Second 8-Week Session
Biblical Spiritual Formation, Tuesdays from 2:00 – 3:50 p.m.
Biblical Spiritual Formation Lab, Tuesdays from 4:00 – 4:50 p.m.
2-credit class. Discover new ways to draw closer to the Lord and dive deep into the spiritual disciplines as you learn from Dr. Eric Moore, professor of applied theology at Moody Theological Seminary. This course offers an optional lab time (additional 1 credit) where students will interact on a small group level and apply what they learn in the classroom to life and ministry.
Fall 16-Week Session
Biblical Hebrew I, Mondays from 2:00 – 4:50 p.m.
If you have some educational background and have wanted to learn to read the Bible in the original language, take Biblical Hebrew 1 with Professor Daniel Thorpe, who also serves as staff pastor in a local Detroit church.
