This 130 credit four-year degree program seeks to prepare graduates for music ministry and offers tracks in children’s music ministry, ethnomusicology, music ministry, worship arts, and worship technology. The program is appropriate for students who seek a well-rounded program of Bible, general studies, music and music ministry studies.

Student Learning Outcomes

Students completing the Bachelor of Arts in Music program will be able to:

  • Formulate a biblically-based philosophy of music ministry.
  • Exhibit practical music and leadership skills in a ministry context.
  • Display competence in general musicianship.
  • Demonstrate skills in an applied area (composition, instrument, piano, organ or voice).
  • Apply basic knowledge in a selected track (children's music ministry, ethnomusicology, music ministry, worship arts or worship technology).

Students in this program may choose from:

Children's Music Ministry
Students who expect that children's music ministry will be a significant part of their overall music ministry should choose this track.

This track gives students an orientation to the field of world music and its application for missions.
Music Ministry
In addition to the music core, this track includes 7 credits of music electives; for example, contemporary music, children's music, upper-division music theory courses, additional performance studies or any combination.

Worship Arts
This track is for students who wish to combine a study of music with other arts applicable to the worship setting (such as drama, photography or writing).
Worship Technology
This track combines the study of music with technology applicable to the worship setting (such as a recording and MIDI).

Admission Requirements

Admission to this program is contingent upon the student's general acceptance to Moody and is also determined by the student's ability to meet the ministry focus, performance and musicianship requirements. For more information about applying to the Music Department, please see the Music Department's Admissions Requirements.

Future Ministry Possibilities

Many students accept full-time or part-time positions in church music ministry, sometimes combining their music skills with other areas of ministry. We have graduates all over the world involved in missionary endeavors in ethnomusicology, teaching in missionary schools, or performing or composing for ministry contexts.

Each year, a percentage of the graduating class goes to graduate school to prepare for the next step in their lives. Music majors have been accepted at fine graduate schools and seminaries all over the country.
