ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Since more students apply than can be accommodated on our Chicago campus, Moody uses a selective process for admission. This process gives highest consideration to applicants with the strongest recommendations, academic credentials, evangelistic zeal and highest motivation for pursuing a career in full-time Christian ministry.

Basic Requirements

Moody welcomes applications from students of diverse ethnicity, interests and abilities. Each application is evaluated on its own merits. Moody does not impose specific secondary course requirements for admissions.

While a minimum of a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) of academic courses is required of all applicants, meeting this requirement does not guarantee admission to Moody. Preference will be given to those candidates with highest high school academic standings.

More Requirements / Circumstances

Christian Character

Candidates for admission are required to give evidence of proven Christian character, acceptance of the Lord Jesus Christ as personal Savior at least one year prior to application, and a sincere desire and willingness to pursue full-time Christian ministry. Applicants must maintain a lifestyle consistent with biblical standards that marks itself by a daily walk with Christ, a consistent prayer life and strong character traits. A life of discipline, evidence of emotional maturity, Christian identity and positive influence with peers are also strongly weighed in the evaluation process.

Abstinence from the use of tobacco, alcohol, illegal drugs and sexual promiscuity for at least one year prior to application is also required. In addition, candidates must be an active participant in a Protestant church and participate in regular worship attendance and church ministry opportunities.

Test Scores

Have copies of your ACT or SAT and official TOEFL or IELTS academic section scores (if applicable) sent to MBI. For Moody Bible Institute the ACT score report code is 1088; the SAT code is 1486 and the TOEFL report code is 1486.

If you are coming in as a transfer student you will need to contact ACT or SAT to fill out an additional form in order to have your scores sent. Go to the appropriate testing organization's website for more information.

College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)

The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) offers a series of examinations that tests a student's knowledge of the material typically covered in college-level general education courses. MBI students who score sufficiently can earn credit to satisfy part of MBI's general education requirements for the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Music degree. These exams are administered by national testing centers that are located at major colleges and universities.

Questions regarding CLEP should be directed to the College-Level Examination Program at (609) 771-7865 or at collegeboard.org/clep.

Read Moody Bible Institute's CLEP Testing Guidelines for more information.

Advanced Placement (AP)

Download and read Moody's Advanced Placement Guidelines if you have taken AP courses in high school.

GED Candidates

Candidates who opted to take the GED test must submit an official copy of their score results with all other required application materials. A photocopy of a high school diploma certificate is not sufficient for our evaluation. A passing GED score is required. Admission to Moody Bible Institute is not guaranteed by meeting the minimum requirements, but depends also upon the strength of other qualifications in comparison to other applicants.

Home-Schooled Candidates

Moody recognizes home schooling as a viable educational alternative and welcomes applications from qualified home-schooled students who desire to pursue training for full-time Christian ministry. In recent years, many such students have enrolled in the undergraduate program. In the assessment of home-schooled candidates, the Institute looks for the same scholastic and spiritual qualifications sought in any applicant. The candidate must submit an official transcript or GED score report, plus ACT or SAT scores for evaluation. GED test results must be passing in order to apply.

A candidate must be recognized as a high school graduate in their state of residence. A minimum of 12 units of academic subjects must be completed by the time of application. ACT and/or SAT scores will play an important role in the admission evaluation process. Therefore, the student must take either exam in sufficient time for Moody Bible Institute to receive the score results by the application deadlines.

International Students

International students should consult the nearest American consul or embassy regarding study in the United States. Moody admits undergraduate students from other countries to the Chicago campus only during the fall semester.

All international applicants must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language with a high degree of proficiency. Academic success for students at Moody will depend on the level of fluency in English. Therefore, all applicants must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and have the scores submitted directly to the Office of Admissions. Undergraduate applicants must earn a minimum TOEFL score of 550 on paper-based tests, 213 on computer-based tests, or 79 on internet-based tests. Undergraduate applicants must earn a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 on the academic test. Applicants who do not meet a minimum English proficiency requirement will not be admitted.

Applicants should be aware that several attempts may be necessary before the minimum score is achieved. Furthermore, the tests are offered only at certain times during the year. Go to TOEFL at toefl.org (school code: 1486) or IELTS at ielts.org. Information about taking the examination is provided by the testing service. The results are to be sent directly to Moody Bible Institute. Moody Bible Institute offers no English training programs, and international students are expected to possess sufficient proficiency to engage in full-time study in the English language. An international student application will not be considered until the results of this exam are received.

International students will be required to have all academic documents and records evaluated by World Education Services wes.org or Education Credential Evaluators ece.org or any current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. A list of members may be found at www.naces.org/members.html. The evaluation must include a grade point average. Applicants are responsible for paying the evaluation fee.
