(WEBSITE CHANGES COMING SOON Please call 312-329-4400 for more information)

The Graduate Certificate in Intercultural Studies (G.C.I.U.S.) is a 24-hour program designed for the person desiring to minister cross-culturally. The program prepares (from a global perspective) you to minister to other ethnic groups and meet the foundational qualifications of evangelical mission agencies in the areas of academics, skills and character.

This program emphasizes academic scholarship, research and practical application of biblical truths to the needs of the nations. By providing an understanding of the Scriptures and systematic theology, followed by the integration of this knowledge with modern strategies for missions, the program seeks to provide the capabilities needed for ministry in missions and for personal growth. Evaluation skills, as well as effective written and verbal expression, are emphasized.

Goals

The program seeks to attain three types of outcomes in the life of the student: academic, professional and relational.

Academic
The outcomes from this graduate-level educational program are first, that the student will be able to articulate and defend biblical Christianity and biblical theology of mission effectively.

Professional
Second, the student will develop skills in interpreting the Bible, using basic Bible study tools, applying and communicating biblical truth, and impacting others in the church and in the world. Furthermore, the program equips the students to develop skills in ministry in diverse cultural settings with persons of other ethnic backgrounds or religious mindsets.

Relational
Third, the student will be able to embrace a lifestyle of obedience to Jesus Christ and a ministry style modeled after the servanthood of Christ, while exhibiting the attributes of a mature cross-cultural minister, the biblical character qualities of 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1, and cultural and racial sensitivity.
