Chapel and Spiritual Formation Office

It is a work of the Holy Spirit, based on the foundation of Christ’s finished work, which enables the believer to respond actively to the prompting of the Holy Spirit through the mediation of the word of God. Christ is progressively formed in the individual (Gal 4:19) in the context of regular mutual participation in the Christian community and in self-reflective practices from the moment of conversion until consummation when the believer is in the presence of the Lord.

In summative form, it is the word of God, the Spirit of God, and the people of God working together for the glory of God.

Chapel at Moody exists to serve students, faculty, and staff with the opportunity to encounter Christ in worship through the ministry of His Word and the Holy Spirit. Our aim is to be reminded of the gospel story, who we are as His people, and the ministry we are participating in with Him. Chapel is a rhythm and a space where our theology is lived out, practiced, and embodied. It serves as an arena for our doctrine to dance and allows our personalized expressions of our richest thoughts and ideas about God to be activated.

Campus Ministries facilitates a Christ-centered community with undergraduate students in the residence halls where discipleship and spiritually formative relationships can begin, grow, and thrive – primarily through the means of a weekly small group. Each Life Group Leader has freedom to choose the content and direction of their own small group. The Leader will cultivate and encourage an environment of safety, vulnerability, care, and growth.

Commuter Participation: While not mandatory, commuter students are encouraged to engage spiritually by watching chapel services online. 

Access: Online streaming can be accessed through the Moody Bible Institute’s chapel website or designated platforms. 

Tardiness: Arrivals after 10:05 AM will be marked tardy. 

Consequence: Three tardies will be counted as one absence. 

Chapels per Semester: On-campus students must attend 35 chapel services each semester excluding Founders Week 

Policy on Excess Absences: Exceeding the allowable number of unexcused absences may lead to disciplinary actions and impact academic standing. 

How to Submit: Use the iAttended app to submit excuses for absences due to illness, family emergencies, or pre-approved work commitments. 

• To submit an excuse/exemption form within the iAttended App click on ‘Progress’ then on “Undergraduate Chapel Fall 2024’ and then on ‘Counters’ and finally on ‘Request an Exemption.’ Once you are there, please fill out the form and we will review it. 

Work-Related Absences: Require verification from a supervisor through the app. Visit your supervisor with your device. Your supervisor can either will provide a verification code or scan a QR code from your app to confirm your excuse. 

Appeal Process for On-Campus Students 

Special Circumstances: On-campus students facing exceptional challenges that affect attendance may appeal for additional excused absences. 

How to Appeal: Appeals should be made in writing to the chapel office. 

iOS Users: Go to the App Store, search for "iAttended," and download the app.

Android Users: Go to the Google Play Store, search for "iAttended," and download the app.

1. Open the iAttended app.
2. Select "Sign Up" and enter your full Moody Bible Institute student email.
   Example of full email address: Gowtham.paida@moody.edu, not gpaida@moody.edu
3. Create a password and complete the registration process.
4. Verify your email by clicking on the link sent to your student email account.

1. Open the app and select "Log In.
2. Enter your student email and password.

1. Arrive at the chapel service on time from 9:50-10:05am
2. Open the iAttended app.
3. Tap the "Check-In" button on the main screen within the allotted time of the service.
4. The app will use your location to verify you are at the chapel. Ensure your location services are turned on.

How do I record my attendance? 

1. Use the iAttended app to scan a QR code or enter a text code at each chapel service. 

Open the app and go to the "Attendance" section.

Here you can view your attendance record, including the number of attended and missed chapel services.

1. Open the App click on ‘Progress’ then on “Undergraduate Chapel Fall 2024’ and then on ‘Counters’ and finally on ‘Request an Exemption.
2. Select the date of the chapel service you will miss.
3. Enter the reason for your absence and, if required, upload any supporting documentation.
4. Submit your request for review.

Work-related absences require verification from your supervisor through the app.
