If your church is without a pastor, or your pastor is a relative, this form may be given to a former pastor, a minister friend, or a church official. It must be someone who has known you for at least one year and has had the opportunity to observe your spiritual life. The individual cannot be a relative.
This reference should be filled out by a mature Christian adult who has known you at least one year and who is not one of your relatives.
Applicants are required to take one of these tests no later than the early part of their senior year in high school so that the results can be sent to the Admissions Office by the application deadline. Consult with your high school guidance counselor for testing information.
The Moody code number for reporting ACT is 1088 and for SAT is 1486. Exemption is granted only to those who have completed one year (30 semester hours) of college-level work at an acceptable academic level (2.3 GPA minimum) or to those who have completed secondary education for a period of two years at the time of application. International applicants are not required to submit ACT or SAT scores.
Request official transcripts from all schools attended to be sent directly to the Admissions Office at Moody. All transcripts are required and must be postmarked by the application deadline. Transfer candidates must submit both high school and college transcripts if a bachelor’s degree has not been obtained. International applicants must provide a notarized translation of all transcripts into English and provide an official transcript evaluation.
All international applicants must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language with a high degree of proficiency. Academic success for students at Moody will depend on the level of fluency in English. Therefore, all applicants must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and have the scores submitted directly to the Office of Admissions. Undergraduate applicants must earn a minimum TOEFL score of 550 on paper-based tests, 213 on computer-based tests, or 79 on internet-based tests. Undergraduate applicants must earn a minimum IELTS score of 6.5. Applicants who do not meet a minimum English proficiency requirement will not be admitted.
Exceptions to the required TOEFL or IELTS test scores will be made in the following two instances only: (1) the applicant is a citizen of Australia, the British West Indies, Canada, Great Britain, or New Zealand and is a native speaker of the English language; or (2) the applicant has been admitted to and studied at an accredited educational institution in one of the countries mentioned above or in the United States within the past two years at the time of application.
Applicants should be aware that several attempts may be necessary before the minimum score is achieved. Furthermore, the tests are offered only at certain times during the year. Go to TOEFL at toefl.org (school code: 1486) or IELTS at ielts.org. Information about taking the examination is provided by the testing service. The results are to be sent directly to Moody Bible Institute. Moody Bible Institute offers no English training programs, and international students are expected to possess sufficient proficiency to engage in full-time study in the English language. An international student application will not be considered until the results of this exam are received.
