The Moody School of the Bible project provides biblical and theological training to rural pastors and Christian leaders in Ghana. The most recent graduation ceremony took place in August, celebrating more than 1,000 graduates since the program began in 2017!
Dr. Gregg Quiggle, professor of theology, was present for this year’s graduation of 439 students. “I can’t even describe what it’s like to see these people who have desperately wanted something to finally get something that they can understand and use. And their level of commitment overwhelms me. It’s truly one of the most important things I’ve ever done in my life. This is pure Mr. Moody—providing basic Bible education to lay people. The people who need it the most and have the least access to it.”
“Since I enrolled in Moody School of the Bible, my confidence has increased, and I teach God’s Word with boldness and without any fear. I thank God for this opportunity to undergo this simple, theological training.” - Level One Graduate Seth Owusu-Adjei
Moody School of the Bible has to overcome significant obstacles to enable students in Ghana to receive a biblical education.
“In many places in the world, people do not read or write,” Dr. Quiggle explained. “In addition, they have limited access to technology. While many have cell phones, most are basic phones with no screen. They can only get calls and text.”
Each student receives a solar player with a copy of the Bible in their language. The phone is loaded with Bible classes, four for level one and four more for level two. After each lesson, students respond to questions on their phones to assess their understanding.
“What is unique about this is that Moody is providing materials to people who have no other option,” Dr. Quiggle said. “We are enrolling pastors and evangelists who will receive for the first time in their life some basic biblical training.”
